This is an airsoft site located not too far away from another site which we regularly play at called phoenix airsoft which we already have a review of.
This is a site which we have been too around twice or three times a year and the number of times we go probably reflect on our view of this site but we will go into that later down in the review
So what does the site have?
First of all a very large safe zone with more than enough tables and seating to easily fit at least 100 people along with a shop for all your basic food needs, however it also serves as the safe zone for paintballers if they are there as well. This isn't only a site purely for airsoft as it's marketed as an activity centre so you will see a whole bunch of other stuff happening when you are there from axe throwing, air gun shooting, paintballing plus others. Since its setup in such a way the airsoft fields are set up in a way which you would not normally see at your standard airsoft site. The fields instead of being one big area
are set up as multiple self contained fields. These fields vary from a "village" field and a field with ammo box built barricades and a tank in the middle and following further down that field leads you to a bridge and a castle additionally there are a few wide open fields which are more used by the paintballers.
How is the site run?
The games are set up where the players are led to the field which is being used and briefed on each of the game fields for each game and then after the game ends all the players are led back to the safe zone along with marshals waiting to check each player's guns to ensure they are clear. In terms of safety they certainly take it seriously and that is a good thing but the games themselves are not very long properly around 30 mins and pretty much without exception players are made to go back to the safe zone meaning you are not out playing as much as I imagine most players would like to be. What seems to cause this is the seemingly long breaks between every game which can feel abit unsatisfying when you feel you're wasting your day mostly in the safe zone instead of going out to play. One of our team members summed it up pretty well by calling skirmish airsoft "A place where you wait to play airsoft" which seems to be a sentiment agreed with across the team which have played there. This might be not a negative to other players however who have fitness/medical issues as getting back to the safe zone is pretty close from any of these fields and with the games being in such short bursts could be something more manageable. Additional problems have crept up over the years which we have noticed with the decline of certain parts of the site such as the bridge and the castle which the former now being unsuable as players are told to stay off it for safety reasons and the latter now only being allowed in the castle on the ground level for the same reasons when you were used to be able to go to the top and shoot off there. It does not seem they have any intent of ever restoring any of these or replacing them with anything else.
The staff/environment
On the whole it seems the staff are pretty top of everything throughout the days we have been there and nothing to complain about and the environment of the site being relaxed giving to the style of the site you will typically see a lot of 1st timers here with a few regulars mixed in.
How much does the site cost?
The cost of the site is £30 for a non member and £25 for members along with rental packages as cheap as £45. This is the typical price for a lot of airsoft sites so by price it's not very expensive. However, mentioning the problem of "A place you wait to play airsoft" We would say the value of the price of admission is something which is going to be entirely down to you, unless you have certain limitations then we cannot say to us personally this airsoft site is actually worth it.
Concluding It's certainly a site which is a pleasant and relaxed place to go and play a few games but taking the long waits between each game in addition to having to share the site with paintballers which means you are likely to get paint on yourself from their previous games even though realistically that's a bit of a nitpick it very hard for us to give skirmish airsoft a recommendation for the regular airsofter. It could be a place to try out once but after you have been there you will have seen everything the place has to offer and you will probably walk away at the end of the day unfulfilled. This isn't a major knock against the staff who run the place as we'd imagine this is how they are told to do it since they run the place like an activity centre instead of an airsoft site which we understand and hold no ill wills towards them but at the end of the day it comes back to that one popular statement "It's a place where you wait to play airsoft"
